CPLG Named Global Licensing Agent for Hit Degrassi TV Franchise
Degrassi Products to Include Apparel and Publishing
Burbank (May 18, 2010) - Copyright Promotions Licensing Group (CPLG), Cookie Jar's licensing arm, has been named worldwide licensing agent for the award-winning Degrassi television franchise. This is the first time that Degrassi apparel and books will be available at retail.
Building on Degrassi's 30 years of success on air, CPLG will target teen girls and young adults, offering these fans a wide range of consumer products including apparel and publishing. CPLG has kicked off its licensing program by signing 5th Sun as the apparel licensee. 5th Sun's Degrassi t-shirts will be available exclusively at Hot Topic starting this summer.
We're thrilled to represent one of the most successful teen TV franchises of all time as they celebrate their 30th anniversary," said Cindy Davis, SVP Licensing, CPLG U.S. "CPLG looks forward to bringing a variety of products to retail that will appeal to fans of all ages."
For 30 years, Degrassi has captured the essence of "real" teen life, igniting a strong loyalty among its audience. The highly-successful TV franchise debuted in 1980 on CBC with The Kids of Degrassi Street. Three spinoff TV series: Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi High and Degrassi: The Next Generation, three TV movies, two TV miniseries, and one documentary series, Degrassi Talks, followed. Set in the fictional Degrassi universe, it follows the emotional stories of an ensemble cast as they cross paths in high school, college and beyond. The newest series, Degrassi: The Next Generation, has been the top-rated show on TeenNick since its launch nine seasons ago. The series centers around teenagers as they delve into new experiences related to the trials and tribulations of "real" life: break-ups and make-ups, friendships and fall-outs, self image, peer pressure, sexual identity and teenage pregnancy.
