Wembley Stadium
The new Wembley Stadium is recognised as the home of football not just in the UK, but across the globe. As Pele himself said, "Wembley is the church of football, it is the capital of football and it is the heart of football."
Whilst being synonymous with football - hosting all major domestic football finals from The FA Cup and Carling Cup finals to The FA Vase and The FA Trophy Finals, the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and the Championship, League 1 and League 2 Play-Offs - since it opened in May 2007 the new Wembley Stadium has already played host to an array of other world class sporting events, from Rugby Union and League to American Football to motor-racing. It also hosts major music events and since it opened in May 2007 has already seen the likes of Madonna, George Michael, Foo-Fighters and Muse perform there. Take That, Oasis and Cold Play are lined up to perform at the venue throughout 2009.
Bigger than Stadium Australia or Stade de France, the new state-of-the-art Wembley Stadium is the largest spectator-covered stadium in the world with 90,000 seats. A visually stunning venue, it is a new iconic landmark for London and a major tourist attraction, with over 150,000 people going on the Stadium Tour annually.
A dramatic and instantly recognisable addition to the London skyline, the giant arch stands 133 metres tall and is high enough to roll the London Eye underneath. The giant arch is not there simply to look impressive - the stadium roof is suspended from it, removing the need for columns and offering incredible, unobstructed views from every single seat.
The new Wembley Stadium has a brilliant future ahead, built upon a glorious past. Hosting world-class events in a state-of-the-art venue, the new Wembley Stadium offers the ultimate stadium experience.
