The England Rugby Team is one of the most feared, respected and successful teams in the world of sport.
Embodying strength, spirit, discipline and team work, England Rugby has achieved great success in recent times. Having beaten the home team in the final to win the Rugby World Cup in Australia in 2003, this was followed up by reaching the World Cup Final in 2007. Both of these games were watched by more than 15 million fans across the UK.
The IRB Rugby World cup is the world's third largest sports event. The 2011 tournament is being held in New Zealand (September - October) and is set to be televised into over 200 countries. This is unquestionably the sporting event of the year.
England was recently chosen as the Host Nation for the 2015 IRB Rugby World Cup. This is of course a major development which will significantly enhance the commercial opportunities around the game.
Rugby fans also enjoy the annual RBS 6 Nations tournament (February - March) and the Investec Internationals (November). Broadcast on the BBC, the RBS 6 Nations matches involving England regularly attract TV audiences of over 7 million viewers.
Overall England is the most successful team in Five/Six Nations history, with 20 outright (plus 6 shared) victories.
The iconic and world renowned Twickenham Stadium is the home of England Rugby, and in the 2009/2010 season celebrated its centenary year. With an 82,000 capacity, it is the largest dedicated rugby stadium in the world.
Over the years many different products have been licensed to over 100 different licensees . With recent successes on the pitch, the licensing programme has developed at a rapid rate and has been transformed into one of 'best-in-class' licensees. At the 2009 Licensing Awards, the quality of the England Rugby licensing programme was recognised as it was voted ‘Best Licensed Sports Property'.
